When the Enemy Attacks an Intercessor...

Lord, please not again.  Why does the enemy have to attack every time I have followed exactly where you led me to go and prayed and interceded as I felt you calling me to do?

Why does he try so hard to stop me from listening for you?  Why does he provide so many reasons, excuses really, that I could use to avoid taking on another prayer assignment that you have clearly sent to me?

As one of your intercessors, God, it seems that the attacks of the enemy are always coming.  I’m just glad that he is predictable and especially glad that you make me aware of what is happening a lot sooner than I used to be, so I can fight back in prayer.  Thank you for that, God.

If you’re one of God’s intercessors, then you have undoubtedly felt the attacks of the enemy.  Sometimes, I think the enemy has special tactical forces that he uses just on God’s intercessors.  He really hates it when we pray.

If you’ve been walking in obedience, listening to the Lord, reading and taking to heart what the Scriptures have to say AND you’ve been interceding for others in prayer…well, look out.  I would tell you differently if I could.  But, Spiritual warfare is to be expected if you are called to pray.

Lately, when I’ve been praying, I have felt the power and the presence of the Holy Spirit well up within me and heard the Spirit praying through me on behalf of those God has called me to minister to in prayer.  I can’t even claim the flow of the words in prayer as my own.  Nope, God is truly providing all the words that I am praying.  And, the enemy does not like it.  So, for a little while, I suffer.

"And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you." 1 Peter 5:10

I know that God will continue to strengthen me through the battles I face.  He even grows my faith in the process.  "Blessed be the LORD my rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle".  Psalm 144:1  Yes, there will always be Spiritual warfare if you are one of God’s intercessors.  But, remember, the battle belongs to the Lord!

"This is what the Lord says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s".    2 Chron 20:15

So, dear fellow intercessor, let’s keep praying!
