Signing Up for a Prayer Time

Times have been set and intercessors secured to pray for all those coming in for a special event called Missionary Council next week.  Early online sign-up documents were sent out.  And, currently, we have about six people signed up.  Is that bad news?  Nope.  It’s just the beginning of knowing who we will be praying with.

You see those coming in for the special event have much to prepare before they arrive.  They are flying in from all over the world which means there are travel plans to secure.  There are also all the necessary steps for each one to take before being able to leave the area of the world in which they serve; even for a short time.  Signing up for anything else right now can begin to feel overwhelming.

So will they sign up at all?  Oh yes.  Past experience tells me the prayer time slots will fill up over the week.  Some will even change from day to day.  Other pop-up meetings will arise and some will switch times with someone else, so that we may not even know for sure who is going to walk through our prayer room doors next week.

Then there are the hallway prayers.  It happens quite frequently that I will be walking down the hall, simply checking on the latest changes to the prayer sign-up lists before returning to the chapel and someone will stop me who has simply slipped out of a meeting to take a quick break.  Then, there in the hallway what will begin as a simple hello and short conversation will emerge into a time of sharing and yes, even of intercession.

For others the “hallway hello” may be the reminder they needed that they still intended to sign up for a prayer time.  Our missionaries appreciate prayer and the power of God within a prayer. I have prayed with so many of them now, and I look forward to the opportunity to pray with many of them again.

Our team of intercessors is gearing up this week to be onsite and available next week.  Most of the time we are separated by many miles and joined only through Zoom, a messaging strand, and phone calls of prayer.  But, this is a special time for us, too.  This is our time to join together and pray and intercede in pairs for our field missionaries.  There is great power in praying with another intercessor when interceding for someone in prayer.  “Where two or more are gathered in my name, there am I with them.”  Matthew 18:20

Lord, prepare us well, so that we may serve others in intercession; that you, alone, O God, will be glorified in the answers you will bring!  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Today, I am feeling blessed as I prepare to lead our team of intercessors together in serving in prayer.  When one is called by God to be one of his intercessors, it is a gift we are blessed to give when we intercede for someone else by carrying their concerns to the foot of God’s throne and awaiting the answers only HE can bring.
