Praying for an Intercessor

How do you pray for an intercessor?  Isn’t an intercessor supposed to have an amazing close relationship with the Lord?  Aren’t they the ones who do the praying for everyone else?  Shouldn’t they know how best to pray for themselves? I mean isn’t that like asking if I should fix the mechanic’s car?

Most intercessors are blessed with a beautiful close relationship with our Lord because we do spend many hours in his presence.  And, yes, intercessors are called to pray for everyone.  But then, we are all called to pray.  Yet, you would be correct in saying that God’s intercessors are called to not only pray for people, but to pray with them; on their behalf and to enter God’s throne room and lift others to the Lord in prayer.

Even Moses, whom God called to pray for Joshua while he was fighting the battle, needed a little help from others.  If you remember, Aaron and Hur stood on either side of Moses and helped lift his arms high so that God would help Joshua in the battle.   Somedays, even God’s intercessors need someone to pray on their behalf.

The Lord says we are to carry one another’s burdens; I suspect that even means the burdens an intercessor may encounter when praying often with and for others.  No, I’m not suggesting that you take on their prayer burdens as these are often personal and may have been entrusted to a specific intercessor to pray for.  Nor would I suggest to anyone that they fix the mechanic’s car, unless, they too, are a mechanic!

But…intercessors do need prayer.  Somedays, we just need someone to pray that we will continue to leave the burdens we pray for with the Lord and not try to hold onto them.  Sometimes, we need someone to pray that we seek God’s guidance in what we are praying and that we hear the Holy Spirit clearly in how best to pray for the one whose prayers we’ve been entrusted to carry to the Lord.

There are days that we need someone to pray for us to feel the compassion needed in fully surrendering the burdens of another to the Lord.  We have times that we need someone to pray that we continue to find joy in our calling and that we will not grow weary in listening and praying on the behalf of another.

We often need prayers for protection as the enemy seeks to stop our prayers by distraction, heavy workloads and frustrations that cloud our minds.  We need prayers for the Lord to continually create clean hearts in us and renew our Spirits.  We even need prayers that we will remain faithful and trust our God to supply all the answers to every prayer we pray.

Yes, even God’s intercessors need someone to pray for them.  Is that someone you, today?

Many times as an Intercessor I ask the Lord to lay me on someone else's heart because I need prayer too 🙏
