Power in Prayer Walking
- Life of an Intercessor

Prayer at any time, any place, and with anyone is good. Praying while sitting is good prayer. Praying while standing is good prayer. Praying with someone else is connecting in prayer. Praying while fasting is very strong prayer. Some of my most passionate prayers have come while kneeling before the Lord.
But some of my most insightful prayers have come while prayer walking. Prayer walking is like a river of prayer coming forth for this intercessor. There is something about being outside and seeing God’s handiwork, hearing the sounds he created and being aware of the world around me that inspires the prayers to come pouring out.
When an intercessor goes prayer walking, it is as though God gives us eyes to truly be his watchmen. Situations become clearer. We become more aware of what to pray. As our steps move us forward, the words are unlocked within us and somehow God just gives us the words to pray!
Because of this, I would suggest that one take their prayer walking to places where it is safe to pray aloud and with conviction. Especially if you are taking that prayer walk alone. No need to have someone stop you because you appear a little crazy!
Prayer walking in public places can still be quite powerful. Take a partner with you and keep your prayers aloud at a level you would use if you were just taking a walk and talking to the person beside you. You may hear your prayer partner pray something that sparks a new set of prayers that you will then pray when it is your turn. Just remember to keep the walk focused on both of you talking to God and not slip into a time of chatting with each other. God is quite present in your prayer walking and he is listening to every word you are speaking to HIM.
I’m continually amazed at what God reveals to me when I am prayer walking with him. He seems to sharpen my senses to the needs of others, and of how to pray for them. I find myself walking faster at times as I become more in tune to the needs God is revealing. I see things I somehow normally would miss as he clears my spiritual sight.
If you really want to enjoy some power in prayer walking, take time to praise God as you prayer walk. It is an amazing experience. If you take time to thank him, just be prepared for all he will bring to mind once you get started. We truly have more than we realize to give him thanks. If you choose to ask for forgiveness while prayer walking you may feel the power of his presence walking right beside you.
I urge you to take a prayer walk and discover the joy of walking and talking with our Lord. If you have never done it before, do not worry. God will be right beside you and he will guide you.
