Not Reminding Him; Praying to Him

God does not forget his promises.  Nor does he ignore them.  In fact, every promise that God ever made to us, he has kept.  “Every promise has been fulfilled.  Not one has failed.”  Joshua 23:14

So, you might be wondering why we would need to pray God’s promises back to him.  Wouldn’t an intercessor have better things to pray than to pray what has already been promised; and not only promised, but fulfilled?!

And yet, as one of God’s intercessors I often find myself praying the Lord’s promises back to him on behalf of someone else.  Here is why.  When I pray a promise that God has already made, I am not reminding God.  I am reminding the person I am interceding for, and I am reminding myself.  We do not need to worry if this prayer is going to be answered.  It will be.

Praying the promises of God helps us grow in our faith as intercessors.  It helps those being interceded for to grow in their faith because it reminds us of who God is.  God is Almighty.  He is Sovereign.  He is unchanging.  He does what he says he will do when all the rest of us on earth do not.

When life says, “Everyone will leave you”.  When you tell yourself, “I am alone.”  God says, “I will never leave you, nor forsake you.”  God is truth and his Word will always stand.  Therefore, we can intercede and pray, “Lord, you have promised me that you will never leave me; that you will never forsake me.  Lord, I feel alone in this situation.  Remind me of your steadfast, loving presence in my life.”  And he will.

In more ways than you or I can even conceive of, God will show you that you are not alone.  He is with you.  He has promised and all his promises are fulfilled.  So, whatever situation you may find yourself in today; however alone or misunderstood you may be feeling, you can pray this promise and trust in confidence that God will answer your prayer.  He will remind you of his steadfast loving presence in your life.

As one of God’s intercessors, I love reading the Holy Scriptures and holding onto the promises that God has given us.  I love knowing that the Lord has promised that if I ask for wisdom, it shall be given to me.  I cannot count the number of times that someone has asked me to pray that they will be given wisdom when I was interceding for them.  I can tell you that every time; every single time that I have prayed that prayer for someone, it has been answered.

May we all grow in faith as we pray and intercede standing on the promises of God.
