Are Intercessors Warriors?

As one of God’s intercessors who has been praying for others for a while now, my answer is yes.

If I was to write a job description of an experienced intercessor, I would need to include the word warrior.  Let me explain.

There are times in the life of an intercessor that we are called to face the darkness on behalf of another person.  When that individual is facing a Spiritual attack and it is beating them down, the Lord often gives a nudge to one of his intercessors to reach out to that person.  Sound a bit crazy?  It’s true.

I’ve been nudged many times to make a phone call or send a text only to find out that, yes, something was going on in that person’s life and prayers were needed now.  God’s timing is always impeccable.  You may be wondering what happens when you are facing a Spiritual attack and you don’t know an intercessor.  God has you covered.  He has sent me to pray with people I did not know, in public places, and they have always said yes when I asked if I could pray with them.  Sound even crazier?  It’s true.

There is a place in prayer when I know that I am now entering a Spiritual war zone.  It feels different.  My senses are charged and I realize that the words pouring out of me in prayer are surely not my own, but belong to the Holy Spirit the Lord placed within me.  It is here that the warrior within rises up to battle against the darkness.  God’s truths are spoken with conviction.

The battle belongs to the Lord.  He is the one that overcomes the darkness in a person’s life.  But, for reasons we may not fully understand, he often uses his intercessors to pray his words on the battleground.  If you are a new intercessor, this is why it is so very important for us to spend time in God’s word.  It is why we must pray daily and seek him in all circumstances.  Just as an athlete must train constantly and consistently, so an intercessor must continually spend time in prayer and in the Scripture.

Our prayers belong to the Lord.  He alone knows the moment one of his children is facing a crisis.  And that, sister, is when he will call you to go and war in prayer on their behalf.  We need to be ready.  So, stay in shape in your prayer life.  Stay alert.  Keep your eyes on God and trust him to use you in the battle.

Are intercessors warriors?  For many of us that answer is yes.  For those he has called, he has equipped.  We have no need to fear.  We must only trust our God and be ready to serve whenever and wherever he calls.  We must be ready to give the Lord all the Glory.
