When you pray, did you ever wonder who is listening to your prayer? Or, if anyone is listening at all?
Sadly, some folks believe that prayers are merely words spoken aloud to make us feel better. Others believe that the words of a prayer somehow just go out into the universe in the hopes that somewhere, someone might be listening. Neither is true.
Someone is listening, and that someone is God! I tell you that with all confidence because the Holy Scriptures reveal that God hears our prayers! For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer… 1 Peter 3:12
God hears every prayer we pray. Uttered aloud or in a silent plea, God is listening when we pray. But, to fully understand who hears us, we need to understand a little of who God is. I am the first and the last, the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. Rev 22:13 God was here before us and will be here long after us. He is in every moment of time. This is who we pray to.
For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. Col 1:16 God created you. He created everything around you. He created all you see and even what you cannot see. This is who we pray to.
Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations… Deut. 7:9 God is not a man. He is not limited by the things of man, such as time or space. He is the Almighty God! This is who we pray to.
As an intercessor, I pray to the living God who keeps his covenant with those who love him. I pray to the Creator of the Universe who created everything visible and invisible. I pray to God, the Alpha and the Omega, knowing he goes before me and sees behind me. I pray to the Lord because his ears are attentive to my prayer. This is who I pray to.
Make no mistake, when we pray God is the one listening, and God is the one answering.
