Hidden Beneath the Paint

by Jacqui - One of God's Intercessors

The old dresser stood strong, hidden away in the corner. At first it was difficult to even see it due to the boxes stacked on top of it. When everything had been cleared away its shabbiness became apparent. It was thickly covered in several coats of varying colors of paint with the final coat being a dull, dusty, chipped black. But underneath all the layers of old paint, it was real wood. Could I possibly restore it?

Sometimes, our very soul begins to feel like that old dresser. We find ourselves covered in changes that have dulled who we once were. We may even feel that others don’t really see us any longer. They see only what we do and the ‘baggage’ we carry. Are you there, friend?

He restores my soul. Psalm 23:3 In the hands of God, our master creator, we can be restored. The word restored means brought back to an original state of health, soundness, and vigor. It doesn’t matter how banged up, broken down, or dull you may be feeling. You can be restored.

Perhaps, you’re wondering how you ever ended up where you are or feeling the way you do. Have you lost hope? God still sees you. He still knows you, even with your bruises.

You have allowed me to suffer much hardship, but you will restore me to life again and lift me up from the depths of the earth. You will restore me to even greater honor and comfort me once again. Psalm 71:20-21

…restore me to even greater honor? God is reaching out to you today, friend. He is offering to restore your soul and bring forth the beauty he planted within you before you were even born.

The old dresser? I bought it many years ago when I was only 18. In my parents’ garage, my mother showed me how to refinish and restore it. When we finished, it was beautiful! It still is, even today. It’s time to hope, again. God is waiting to restore your soul.

Father God, bless the friend who is reading this today. Restore her soul and bring forth the beauty hidden within her. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
