God Started It - A Devotion

By Jacqui – One of God’s Intercessors

"For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer." 1 Peter 3:12

You may find it difficult to take initiative and be the one to set up a meeting; especially if it’s with someone in authority. How does one actually set up a prayer meeting with God? Here’s the good news. God has already started it. He’s already started the prayer, and he’s just waiting for you to join him!

In our prayer department, one of our intercessors sets up a weekly prayer call for anyone in the mission community to simply dial in and join. You need no appointment or agenda you just dial the number from any phone and she admits you to the call. If you need to join a little late, you’ll notice that the prayer has already started. You’re welcome to join in when an opening happens.

God is already waiting in his prayer room for you to join him. There’s nothing for you to set up or schedule, you’re just welcome to come into his presence and begin to pray. If you’re feeling a little shy, you’re welcome to sit comfortably in his presence until you’re ready to speak.

If you’re unsure what to say and would prefer he speak first, he will. Just open the Bible and begin reading the Scriptures he left for you. You can even pray those same Scriptures back to him. It’s called declarative prayer and is often referred to as ‘standing on the promises’ of God!

Unlike our intercessor who leads the prayer call, God never hangs up or ends the prayer call with us. He started the prayer and remains in the prayer room waiting as many intercessors and other praying people run in and out of his prayer room all day and all night.

There’s great comfort in knowing that God is always available to hear our prayers. Try imagining if we had to schedule a time to meet with God! What if it took 8 or 9 months to get in, like some doctors? What if he didn’t take our insurance? What if the COVID restrictions meant we couldn’t bring anyone else into the prayer with us?

Thankfully, God is not only available, but he’s already started the prayer time. He’s just waiting for you to step in. Here, let’s go into this prayer together. Are you ready?

Father God, we thank you that we can come into your presence. Lord, please hear the one praying with me as she shares what is on her heart with you….
