Equipped with His Gifts

By Jacqui – One of God’s Intercessors

Yesterday, I was stopped by a friend after church. She said, “I really need you to pray.” Then, she explained a very tragic situation that a friend of hers had just experienced. It was heartbreaking to hear and had obviously upset my friend. She then went on to share another situation that she hoped I would pray for that affected her own family. At that point, I looked into her eyes and asked, “Can I pray for you, now?”

She held out her hands and I prayed. She prayed in agreeance and together we lifted up those who were hurting from the tragedy; not without a few tears, and her own family member. I then prayed for her. She, too, needed to be lifted to the Lord as she was carrying the pain of others.

When we finished the prayer, I looked around and the worship hall was empty! I never saw the people leave. That’s how it is with prayer, sometimes, for an intercessor. We tune into what the person is sharing, especially, when we sense the Holy Spirit is involved in the request. Then, we quite simply tune out the world around us and go to the Father in prayer.

I’m thankful to live in a country where I can do this. Some of the places I have traveled to pray, it would not be safe to entirely tune out our surroundings. God has taught me that when I’m completely unaware of anything but him, he is there. He’s also taught me to pray wisely when I’m in an area that requires monitoring of what’s going on around me.

I didn’t fully realize what God had equipped me to do until this moment. What gifts the Lord has given me as an intercessor! He gave me the gift of being able to pray fully focused on God even when I’m completely aware of everything going on around me and the gift of being able to completely block out everything around me, when it’s safe to do so, and focus on the prayer.

When God calls an intercessor, he makes sure we are fully equipped to do what he’s called us to do. If you’re thinking, I couldn’t do that. I couldn’t answer a call to intercession because I’m just not equipped. That is a lie from the enemy. When God calls us, we often are really not prepared. We just need to say, “Yes, Lord, send me.” God handles the rest! Then, one day, you may find yourself realizing that God has given you a gift; the gift of being one of his intercessors.
