By Jacqui – One of God’s Intercessors
There are bumper stickers that say, “I’d Rather be Fishing” and “The Mountains are Calling Me.” We proudly display our favorite things to do and places to be. We may even be waiting for others like us to wave, nod their head or give a thumbs up in agreement because they, too, would rather be fishing or heading to the mountains.
As one of God’s intercessors, I can honestly say my bumper sticker needs to say, “I’d Rather be Praying” and “God is Calling Me.” You see there’s nothing quite like closing the door to my prayer closet and settling in with God. That’s not to say I don’t pray in a myriad of places or at a variety of times, but those times alone with God in prayer are the moments that bring me peace and renew my spirit.
So, today, I openly admit to you, friend, that I really like spending time alone with God. It seems the more time I spend with him, the better I get to know him. This week I spent time with a couple of ladies I’m mentoring in intercession talking about God’s names. Did you know his names reveal quite a bit about his character?
Adonai (Lord) is actually a Hebrew word that indicates a sign of respect for him as our Lord. When we pray to El Roi, we pray to the God who sees us. And Elohim? Wow! Elohim is God’s Hebrew name meaning he is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit all in one. You see, Elohim is a plural word that represents ONE God.
As an intercessor I often pray to Jehovah Jireh (my Provider), Jehovah Rapha (my Healer), and Jehovah Nissi (my Banner). Now, please don’t let me confuse you. I’m still praying to the ONE living God. But God has given us his names in the Scriptures to allow us to know more about his character and when we pray using the names he’s provided, it’s our way of saying, “I know this about you, God.”
Maybe, you’re like me and you enjoy time alone with God. If you’re an intercessor at heart, don’t stop with a simple thumbs up, let me hear a big ‘Amen’. Oh, and if the bumper sticker of your heart says, “God is Calling Me” please send me an email. OMS World Intercessors would love to meet you!
