Devotion - Can I Really Do This?!

By Jacqui – One of God’s Intercessors

BEWARE OF INSECURITY! Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a warning sign anytime insecurity was entering the house? Perhaps, we should wear a mask that would prevent us from breathing in insecurity. We could wash our hands to be sure we hadn’t touched it elsewhere and somehow brought it into our home. We could all line up to get our ‘insecurity vaccines’ and then we’d never have to deal with it again!

While insecurity is not a virus, it does spread. I’ve been in meetings where someone begins letting their insecurities out about what we’re about to do, and suddenly many others begin to ‘catch the insecurity’ and good ideas may be laid aside for a time.

When I pray with people, insecurity seems to have infiltrated many a believer. One minute the believer is strong in faith and ready to go and the next they seem unable to move forward due to the heavy load of insecurity they are carrying.

Recently, I, too, became aware that I was lugging some insecurity around with me. I realized it when I started asking myself, “Can I really do this?” Then, I remembered, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Phil 4:13

That’s what the enemy of our souls does. He places the thought in our minds that somehow, we are responsible for what is to be done. If it’s all up to us, and we know we can fail, insecurity just grabbed a pretty firm foothold!

Go with me to the scripture for a moment… Let’s look at what God has to tell us about this.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Phil 4: 6-7

Insecurity is defined as uncertainty or anxiety about oneself (Oxford Languages). So, God is telling us “Do not be anxious (insecure) about anything.” Knowing us like he does, the Lord doesn’t stop there. He doesn’t just say “Don’t be anxious. Don’t be insecure.” He says, “let your requests be made known to God.” God is telling us to pray when we feel that way! And when we do, something amazing happens. The peace of God guards our hearts and our minds!

Father God, I lift up my friend reading this blog, and I ask, in the name of Jesus, that you remove the anxiety and insecurity they are now feeling.Replace it with your peace, which surpasses all our understanding, and guard their heart and mind from insecure thoughts replacing those thoughts with the knowledge that you will strengthen them. Amen
